The coming of age responsive web design

When speaking of responsive web designing the two major aspects that need attention are --why the need of responsive web design? And what is the very foundation step behind establishing a responsive web design?

Before answering the two elementary questions let us delve into the core concept of responsive web design. Responsive web design focuses on a fluid and flexible web design that reshapes and restructures ( both in terms of content and design) itself automatically in accordance to the screen resolution of the device used by the user. Responsive web design also allows the website to change on scaling down the browser size, whilst retaining the prominence of priority content.

When running a business, the owners might have three separate company websites, one structured to fit on desktop, one to fit the tab device and the third to fit on a mobile phone. Although this will eradicate the need of implementing a complicated responsive web design, but what it will consequently do is negatively affect the Search Engine Optimization. The three separate websites will distribute the traffic among themselves, only to compete against each other. From a logical standpoint a competition between the websites of a same business company will prove nothing but futile and barrier to ROI. Rather, by employing a responsive web design one may redirect the entire traffic to a singular company website, which will consequently augment the SEO ranking to a great extend.

When issuing a responsive web design, what the designers need to keep in mind primarily is to prioritize the content. The owners need to first figure out their main point of interest in terms of content; the search bar, the product info, company profile, fonts, call to action, forms, navigation options, registration options, original media or graphical exhibits. Post prioritizing the content, the website will be coded such, that as the website adapts to the screen of the device it keeps the content of top priority highlighted. The coding process will get complicated as there will never be a generic template. With varying needs of varying businesses, the designers will have to execute an experimental and trial and error method process of designing to make sure that the important content is retained highlighted in all and every digital platform.

To ensure the most effective responsive web design

A coding supporting a flexible layout: First and foremost a rigid coding needs to be discarded. Developers must stay clear of pixel specific dimensions in layout and head in the direction of percentage values in front end CSS files. To lay the foundation for a flexible layout, it is only best to reject absolute values and fixed positions.

Accommodating images and media: Images with minimum file size that load easier on a mobile will be helpful in building a responsive web design. Additionally, uploading media such as video and audio to the company server instead of embedding external links will also come handy in speeding up the website loading speed.

Whilst coding the developers must also keep in mind not to place the coding languages all too densely. Further, consideration must be placed on evaluating the access process of the external files such as CSS and JavaScript, and eliminate any chances of hindrance to site loading. With a responsive web design the business will have the entire traffic directed towards a singular website, which will improve the business's SEO ranking, and which in turn, will boost company's ROI.
